Participant Guidelines

OPEN TO YOUTH CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN UNION COUNTY 4-H

2016 Fall Festival Bake Off Rules & Entry Form

BAKE OFF categories


1.  All items MUST be homemade.

2.  All entries MUST have the recipe attached or it will NOT be accepted.

3.  All items must be made primarily by the youth.  Parents may help as needed but this is specifically a youth project.

4.  Please be sure to read ALL details for the varying categories as to ensure your item meets the requirements for that category.  Dishes not fitting the specific instructions will be placed in a fitting category or eliminated if there is not an appropriate category.

5.  Please do not bring add-ons to your recipes.  For example, cookies should not have accompanying "dips" and breads should not have accompanying "butters" or "spreads".  This is a bake-off competition and are looking to specifically judge the "baked" goods.  Have your dish prepared for the judge.  If something is to be added, it should be a part of the specific dish, not something the judge is expected to "add on".  I.E. frosting is acceptable as it is prepared on a cupcake, while butter is not, as the judge would need to add it to the dish.

6.  Please be sure to have all items in the office on time.  The judges will be ready to begin and it is a lengthy process.  Late entries will not be accepted.

7. Youth may enter only one item per category but you may enter in more than one category.

8.  No mixes allowed.  The item must be fully baked and ready to serve.

9. Submit either an entire cake, loaf of bread or one dozen of the baked item on a disposable plate for judging.

10.  An accurate recipe must be submitted with each entry.  Do not tape recipe to bottom of plate.  Put recipe in a zip-loc bag and bring with you when you bring your entry.

11.  Baked goods are judged on appearance, texture, crumb and flavor.  Score sheet available upon request.

12.  Participants must be present for judging for "Question/Answer" segment with judges.  Participants will receive their judging time after all 4-H Bake Off entries are submitted to the 4-H office. 

13.  Participants will be judged withing their 4-H age group.

BREADS:  Yeast Breads, Quick Breads, Sweet Breads

COOKIES:  Any cookie (no brownies) - NO Dips or spreads

CAKES:  Any cake (no brownies)

MISCELLANEOUS:  Any dessert item that does not fit in a category listed above (i.e. brownies, tarts, etc.)
